MEEKER | Barone Middle School kicked off the 2024 track and field season on Friday, April 5 at the Rifle Invitational.
“Our middle school track team is an exceptionally talented team this year, and that showed on the track and on the field,” commented new head coach Marki Grant.
Barone walked away with top placers in every field event in every grade, including taking first place in seventh-grade girls discus by Raegan Clatterbaugh, eighth-grade boys discus by Holt Pelloni and seventh-grade boys’ shot and discus by Dom Roach.
“The kids also performed extremely well on the track, winning several relays,” said Grant.
The eighth-grade girls 4×100 meter relay and 4×200 meter relay, seventh-grade girls 4×200, and seventh-grade boys 4×100 relays all took first place. The eighth and seventh-grade girls also put up several points in the open 100, 200, 400-meter run, and ran hard in the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter hurdles.
“The best part of the meet was watching the entire team embrace the spirit of track and field by rallying around the last relay teams as they took to the track,” said Grant. Barone will head to Kremmling for the West Grand meet this coming Saturday.
