MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboys track team got cut short this week when a spring snowstorm on Friday caused a weather cancellation for the Clint Wells Meet in Hayden.
The pole vaulters were still able to compete and the Cowboys had a great showing.
Casey Brink had another personal record, vaulting 11 feet 1 inch to take first place. Brendan Clatterbaugh took third with a vault of 10’1” on his first try and Austin Lopez and Connor Blunt both vaulted 10’1” which tied them for fourth and qualified them for state again, according to head coach Hallie Blunt “they need a couple more inches to be safe.” Owen Hanneman ended in a four way tie for sixth.
On the girls side Aspen Merrifield took second with a height of 8’7” and Reese Clatterbaugh cleared 7’7” to tie for sixth place.
This next week the track team will compete in a league meet in Rifle on Friday and Saturday. The tracksters have a couple more opportunities to clear those qualifying runs, throws, jumps and vaults before the big show in Lakewood May 19-21.
