RANGELY — The long search for a new town manager concluded successfully with the selection of Peter Brixius.
Brixius, most recently of Gering, Neb., brings a wealth of experience, beginning as the son of a Marine recruiter who lived in different locations throughout the country.
He’s no stranger to western Colorado, either, having been graduated from high school in Grand Junction.
He went on to earn a degree in chemistry and worked for several major companies, both in the lab and management. He eventually became a vicepresident at Kelly Science Resources, a recruitment business for technical positions.
Most recently he was the CEO of a midwestern agricultural co-op that generated $500,000 annually in sales. At the co-op he was in charge of budget management, human resources and health/safety control.
“I have always looked for new challenges and this position should offer quite a few,” Brixius said.
He and his wife Colleen are avid outdoor enthusiasts. They were enticed by the many opportunities afforded in this area and they enjoy a small town living experience.
Now that he has gotten settled, he and the town council will begin working on long-term plans for the town.
Another new face is that of Alden VandenBrink who has taken the position of utility crew leader. He will primarily be in charge of the waste water system for the town.
He is accompanied by his wife Michelle and two sons.
When asked what attracted him to our small town, he replied, “Small? We’re from Hospers, Iowa, which has a population of 650. We had one store and one gas station, that’s about it. Plus, I don’t miss the tornado warnings.”
VandenBrink stated he has been very impressed with the caliber of his co-workers, the acceptance he’s received and the challenges he will be facing. He is glad for the opportunity of career advancement and training that is available for him here. He and his family are also outdoor lovers who enjoy hunting, fishing and motor sport activities in the “wide open spaces.” The community is invited to attend council meetings and get to know these new additions to the town.
