Last weekend in Grand Junction the Meeker High School varsity cheerleading squad competed at the Western Colorado Regional Championships, in the Game Day division. Game Day is a brand new division in Colorado high school cheerleading this year. “Our athletes had three minutes to showcase their motion technique, crowd leading ability (vocals, pace, flow, enthusiasm, etc) stunting and jumping technique,” said coach Antina DiBenedetto. The squad performed a band chant, situational sideline (they had to come prepared with multiple cheers and the announcer would call offense or defense), crowd leading cheer and school fight song. “We took first place in the 2A Game Day Division,” said DiBenedetto enthusiastically. This is the first time the squad competed in this competition. ”No words can express how proud we are of these 11 young women. They have worked so hard preparing for competition on top of being at all of the home volleyball and football games,” DiBenedetto said. “They are amazing athletes and we are so excited to share this win with our community.” The Meeker Varsity Cheerleading Squad members are: MHS senior, Captain Anneliese Amack; juniors, Captain Tacy Crawford, Cori Mohr, Mariah Hood, Jaydyn Gallegos, Josalyn Lawrence, Alexa Hale; sophomore Annalee Goodwin; freshmen Alexis Linder, Haylie Rose and Gracie Blagg.
