First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers are with the family from Rangely who suffered a tragic loss last week. There are many events to bring people together in the shortest (but sometimes longest) month of the year.

Rankin announces candidacy

RBC I After encouragement from friends and family, Bob Rankin is entering the race to represent Northwest Colorado’s House District 57.  The district encompasses three counties in Northwest Colorado: Moffat, Garfield and Rio Blanco.

NPS awarded FLETA Award

RBC I The National Park Service (NPS) Law Enforcement Training Center’s Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program (SLETP) had its formal federal law enforcement training accreditation assessment in late July.

Letter to the Editor: Senior exemption

Dear Editor: The Colorado Constitution establishes a property tax exemption for senior citizens and disabled veterans. For those who qualify, 50 percent of the first $200,000 in actual value of the primary residence is exempted from property tax.

Donation for emergency vehicle

Williams recently separated into two stand-alone, publicly-traded corporations, Williams and WPX Energy. Representatives from both were in Meeker to donate $15,000 towards the purchase of a second quick-response vehicle for the Piceance Creek area.

The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago There will be plenty of good things to eat at the Pioneers Ball. The Gem Theater picture shows are good; Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The Modern Woodmen masquerade ball on Feb. 22 promises to be a humdinger.

Ice fishing derby

Both recreation districts in RBC partnered with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife for a family ice fishing derby Saturday last on Rio Blanco Lake, where Jayden Mack caught a fish. The Meeker Lions Club provided a free lunch for those attending.
