MEEKER | Sunday, Aug. 6 approximately 400 people – representing at least five congregations, came together to have “church” in Town Park Pavilion!
It was a joy-filled time with music by the Church at Meeker. The other participating congregations were from White River Methodist Church, New Creation Church, Meeker Assembly of God and the Cowboy Church. Rich Ford from the Church at Meeker brought the message. This was followed by all the pastors represented sharing testimonies and prayers and then a baptism service in the White River. The engaged crowd of people witnessing approximately 50 baptisms stood on the Circle Park bridge and cheered as each one came up out of the water – symbolizing their belief in Jesus.
The ages of people who were baptized ranged from elementary school age to 84-years-old. One young man was camping nearby and upon inquiring what was going on, had the Gospel presented to him by one of the pastors and ended up being baptized along with all the others. Another who was afraid of water said, “I’ve been wanting it (to get baptized) for a long time and I wanted it in the river and I’m not going to lie, my fear of water was starting to take over, but I’m so glad my want and desire for this was stronger than my fear. I’m so proud of everyone and it was very special for me to have my family do it as well. God is so good and I’ve been feeling His love all day.” To say there were a lot of happy tears everywhere is an understatement.
The tangible spirit of unity continued with an old-fashioned picnic potluck, where homemade dishes abounded and stories were shared and new friends were made.
One attendee’s sentiment no doubt summed up what most of the others felt when they stated, “This was such a wonderful day! I hope this becomes a tradition and grows with even more churches coming together!”
