As this year ends, I take time to reflect on all the reasons we may have to be thankful. For some, it is their health, for others, it is the beauty of our environment and the ability to enjoy the nature around us. Others may be thankful for their families and the love shared between them, their partners, and friends.
This year at CNCC has been filled with gifts granted and received, opportunities given and shared, teaching and learning imparted and support offered and embraced. For these, we are thankful.
We experienced three successful accreditation visits, were approved to begin our first Bachelor’s degree program (in dental hygiene — the new program opens in the Fall of 2024), were awarded millions in funds to improve our infrastructure, opened our new coffee shop “Sparty’s Brewed Awakening,” received insights from Dr. Denise Henning, Professor at UNC-Wilmington who met with our employees and students as we continue our efforts to remain warm and welcoming as a college community.
In an effort to show our appreciation to members of our college and surrounding community, we held an event on Nov. 11, 2023, called “The Grateful Gathering.” Participants enjoyed an intercollegiate basketball game, followed by arts and crafts, and was capped off with a Thanksgiving dinner shared with CNCC students, employees and members of the community. As it was also Veterans Day, we shared our thanks for the men and women who have served our country along with their families who have provided them with support.
Elections were held this November for two seats on our Rangely District Junior College Board (RJCD). Ms. Ann Brady, long-term community leader and public servant, reached the end of her term eligibility. She ended her tenure with RJCD as President of the Board. We wish to thank Ms. Brady for her years of outstanding service to the people of Rangely in this role and to the college. Gratefully, Ms. Brady will continue to serve on CNCC’s Foundation Board and Advisory Council. New to the Board is Ms. Diane Sizemore, former Chamber volunteer of the year and winner of many other community leadership awards. She is a graduate and former employee of CNCC and serves on the Rangely District Hospital Board. Mr. Bart Nielsen has stepped in as the new Board President and other board members include Mr. Davin Boydstun, Mr. James Dillon and Mrs. Lisa Piering.
Within the next couple of weeks, our semester will come to an end. I want to thank our remarkable faculty and staff for sharing their expertise, efforts, and care to ensure our students receive an exceptional educational experience and ongoing support. I want to thank our students for showing us the power of persistence and for inspiring us to advance positive, sustainable change. Finally, I ask that you join me in the sense of gratitude I feel for being a part of this incredible college and this selfless community.
On behalf of all of us in Spartan Country, here’s wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
