CNCC Corner – Update from CNCC President Lisa Jones

RBC | On March 19, the equinox arrived marking the start of Spring. Though it usually falls on the 20th of the month, it came a day early due to leap year. Our relatively mild Winter has led the way to an equally mild start of Spring… a time when hope is at a high and new life is born and blooms all around us.

At CNCC, it is a very busy time for our faculty, staff, and students, but it is also a time of hope and joy. We recently had the opportunity to bestow academic and leadership honors on students at CNCC’s annual Student Honors Programs held on April 2 in Rangely and April 5 in Craig. It was wonderful to see and recognize the successes of some of the top-performing students at our college.

In celebration of CNCC, its donors, and all who bring educational value to our students, we look forward to hosting the 2024 Foundation Dinner on Saturday, April 20th. We also look forward to dedicating on our men’s and women’s soccer field on Friday, April 26th at 11:30 am. The field will be named in honor of a leader, entrepreneur, and long-time college and community supporter, Mr. Bud Striegel, and his family. For those interested in attending the dedication event and honoring Mr. Striegel and his family, please contact [email protected]. Mr. Striegel has donated his time, support, and resources to the resurrection of a college building and prepping work for CNCC’s softball field.

Though students are feeling the educational “burn,” they also look forward to finishing off the semester on a positive note. For those graduating, they are contemplating with excitement their next life phase. We will also have additional opportunities to recognize outstanding students and program-specific ceremonies in the coming week. We are looking forward to honoring National Park Ranger candidates who will be graduating on May 9, Nursing graduates will be honored at a pinning ceremony on May 10 and Aviation candidates will be honored on the same day at their Wings Ceremony. Dental Hygiene students will hold its annual pinning ceremony on the morning of May 11 with CNCC’s commencement exercises taking place that afternoon at 2 p.m. in Rangely.

We have much to do to close out this academic year, which was filled with institutional and student achievements, but we have much to look forward to during these final weeks of the semester. We in Spartan Country wish each of you hope and joy during this Spring season.
