The CNCC rodeo team is back up and going for the Fall 2022 college rodeo season. The team competed in its first rodeo of the season on Sept. 9-10 in Cedar City, Utah, with a new group of freshmen. The second rodeo of the season was in Pocatello, Idaho, last weekend and the team is headed to Logan, Utah, this weekend.
“Thus far, we have made our way through the ‘freshman jitters’ at the first rodeo and coming out of our second rodeo, we just need some good ol’ luck to go our way,” said rodeo program coach Tammy Olson.
The CNCC college rodeo roster includes:
Kourtney Schurman, from Durango, Colorado, competing in breakaway roping and goat tying.
Donna Begay, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, competing in breakaway roping and team roping.
Emily Amick, from Meeker, Colorado, competing in barrel racing and team roping.
Kensey Quigley, from Grand Junction, Colorado, competing in barrel racing.
Cody Dillashaw, from Henderson, Nevada, competing in bull riding.
Hunter Holmes, from Dinosaur, Colorado, competing in bareback riding.
The CNCC Spartan Showdown will be held at the Moffat County Fairgrounds in Craig for the first time Sept. 30-Oct. 1, following the rodeo program’s move to the Craig campus. The season comes to a close in Price, Utah, on Oct. 7-8.
At the Spartan Showdown, the CNCC rodeo team will host 10 other colleges, coming from western Colorado, all of Utah and southern Idaho, with 160 rodeo athletes.
“It is great rodeo competition on the college level. Our top contestants from our NIRA region will represent us at the College National Finals Rodeo held in June, in Casper, Wyoming,” Olson said.
Donations of time or financial support for the production of the rodeo are welcome.
“Being a new rodeo to Craig, we do need support in both ways. Regardless, please come cheer us on Sept. 30-Oct. 1, in Craig, at the Moffat County Fairgrounds!” Olson said.
