RBC | Rio Blanco County Commissioners Doug Overton and Jennifer O’Hearon were in attendance for the June 25 regular board meeting in Rangely. Commissioner Ty Gates was absent.
Road and Bridge Director Scott Marsh talked about some new methods for road maintenance they are testing on County Road 33.
Commissioners approved an annual contract with the United States Forest Service for control and eradication of noxious weeds and heard a presentation from Jeff Peterson with Deserado Mine/Deseret Power, Bonanza Power Plant. Peterson said the Environmental Protection Agency has approved Deserado to continue mining operations past the 2030 deadline with conditions.
Emergency Manager Eddie Smercina explained the importance of the updated Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which commissioners approved. Smercina said the plan identifies the wildland/urban interface where wildfire might impact the community, infrastructure or private property Having the updated plan opens opportunities for grand funding for fire mitigation.
The board discussed alternative options for the county’s retirement plans with Human Resources Director Laura Smith.
In public hearings the board approved the Coltharp minor subdivision and the Tolley minor subdivision upon recommendation from the planning commission.
Following an update from County Administrator Vicky Edwards and an update from Western Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Parks District Executive Director Tim Webber, the board went into executive session for legal advice.
