With a muddy field, just recently uncovered from the winter’s snow, the Cowboys are forced to practice wherever they can and the only time they step on the diamond has been during their first two games of the season.
“There are very few teams that get as much snow as we do,” commented head coach Donald Blazon. “Our first home game will be moved now due to field conditions and we will play our double header against Olathe in Rifle.”
The Cowboys considered it a positive that they got to play on a field, when they took on the 4A Rifle Bears in their season opener. Meeker lost 11-1 in five innings.
“The game was close until the fourth,” said Blazon, “we just couldn’t get out of that inning”.
Meeker then took on Basalt, losing 7-3.
“We made some good plays but also made some mistakes that cost us,” commented Blazon.
Scoring for the Cowboys was Jace Mobley, Ethan Quinn, and Jake Blazon.
The JV also had a game, winning 9-0 in six innings.
“We have a long season ahead of us and it should be exciting,” said Blazon.
The Cowboys next contest is Saturday the 23rd vs Olathe. It will be a double header varsity game.
