MEEKER | Meeker baseball posted its first two wins this weekend over Olathe.
Coming from behind in game one the Cowboys strengthened the defense in the second half of the game and got the bats going to win 12-6. Ethan Quinn with four runs and Ryan Sullivan with three led the Cowboys to their victory. Sullivan batted 1,000 and added an RBI to his stats, which included seven strikeouts and taking the win from the mound.
“We had two good practices last week on the field which really helped with our defense,” commented head coach Donald Blazon. “Offensively we started slow but the third time through the order we started to put the barrel on the ball.”
In game two the Cowboys didn’t allow the Pirates to get their bats going and continued to hold the strong defense established in game one. Winning game two 12-2 Clay Crawford scored three, and Wyatt Powers and Spencer Gates each had two runs. Crawford secured the win on the mound with six strikeouts over the four innings he pitched.
The Cowboys, for a second time, were forced to move a game to Rifle due to poor field conditions at home. The North Fork Miners came into the game 2-1 and the Cowboys were 2-2. The Miners opened game one with an early 2-0 lead, added another to make it 3-0, and then the Cowboys answered point for point in the fifth inning but were unable to make up the three points scored in the beginning half of the game. Final score 6-9, Miners.
Tuesday’s game two started with the Miners once again scoring two and Meeker kept in the fight to even it up in the seventh to go extra innings. The Cowboys fell 9-7.
They play again this Friday and Saturday and with weather moving in location is TBD.
At time of reporting no stats were entered.
