MEEKER | The 28th ranked Cowboys hosted a series of home games last weekend and look forward to more in the weekend to come. A 1-1 weekend against Gunnison and Cedaredge, head coach Klark Kindler leads a team with a 6-4 record.
Gunnison, a staple in the 3A Western Slope league, is new to Meeker as a league opponent. After a slump in the second quarter where Meeker allowed 24 points, the Cowboys bounced back for a 56-50 victory.
Juniors Jonathan Fitzgibbons, Jace Mobley and Ryan Sullivan led the charge with Fitzgibbons and Mobley scoring 13 and Sullivan 10.
On Saturday the Cedaredge Bruins came out after halftime with energy that was unmatched by the Cowboys. Outscoring the Cowboys 35-21 in the second half, the Bruins took the game 60-49.
“We were unable to make the plays when we needed them,” commented Kindler.
Mobley had 17 points, Fitzgibbons 12 and Casey Brink seven as the top three scorers.
This Thursday Meeker will travel to Vail Mountain, this will be a girls JV game, boys JV and boys varsity only. A home game is scheduled for Friday against Grand Valley with JV beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, the Cowboys will play in North Fork with games beginning at 1 p.m.
