MEEKER I The Cowboys traveled to the Gypsum Creek Golf Course for the Eagle Valley Invitational this past Saturday. It was a beautiful day to run, and a strong showing for the Meeker team.
The boys ran first this week, among a large field of runners, including teams from Summit County and Denver. Twelve schools fielded enough runners for team scores, with the Cowboys scoring fifth place. Out of 128 racers, Marshal Pool finished fifth, in 18:04. Austin Russell finished hard, just edging out another runner for ninth place, and an 18:20 time. Anthony Watt crossed the line in 20:27, pushing himself hard to beat three other racers to secure a 45th place finish, and the third teammate to score. Next to finish for the Meeker squad, in 55th place, was Josh Cochran, in 21 minutes flat. Clay Anderson was our fifth scorer with a 21:14 in 61st place, and Christopher Strate finished right behind him at 21:15.
The girls were back to racing this week, after leg and ankle injuries. Julia Eskelson crossed the line in 23:44 for 23rd place, and Abbi Ibach finished in 29:29, good for 80th place out of 110 runners.
“This was a new course for us this year, but a good one, and a well administered meet. It was great to run against some schools we do not usually see. I am excited to see how much progress we can make as the season continues,” Marty Casey said.
The team will be at the Glenwood Springs High School Invitational Friday, with the girls racing first at 5 p.m. The boys will follow at 5:45 p.m., with both races starting on the west side of the school.
