The Cowboys took their second loss last weekend, but to a team two classifications up and without one of their key players.
Grand Junction Central was not initially on the schedule, but when Mancos dropped out, the team needed to pick up a game. Playing a 5A team will not only challenge the team, something Meeker has not seen a lot this season, but it can positively sway the rankings. Leading for the majority of the game, Central came back to narrowly win 44-50 after a big 23-point fourth quarter.
Jace Mobley and Ryan Sullivan combined for 28 points against the Warriors and kept the weekend going strong into the 50-40 win over North Fork. Mobley put up a huge 23 points against the Miners and Sullivan kept his streak going with another 17.
This weekend the Cowboys are the number one seed in their district which will be played at Central High School in Grand Junction. They open the weekend with Grand Valley on Friday at 6 p.m., a team they have beat 55-49 and 65-50, but this time they will need to adjust the game plan to get it down without JT Fitzgibbons, their number one rebounder. They will look to their big guys on the inside in Jacob Simonsen and Mobley to pull down those rebounds and Mobley and Sullivan to keep the fire going.
