Andy Coryell, new head coach for the Meeker Cowboy football team, said in this first year of coaching he is looking to “help these kids keep improving.”
Last year the Cowboys, with quite a few players injured and out, lost for the second time to the Buena Vista Demons by an extremely slim margin in the quarterfinals of the high school playoffs. This year Buena Vista is now in the Cowboys league and they have a shot at redemption.
“The schedule is going to be very challenging, but that will allow us to see how we measure up right away,” commented Coryell.
Assisting Coryell is Darby Finley as offensive line and will coordinate the defense, Matt Dupire who will coach the receivers and corners/safeties, Matt Scott working with offensive and defensive lines, and new this year, Pete Doan coaching the running backs and safeties.
The 2022 seniors are Dagon Dade, Payke Potetze, Connor Blunt, Casey Brink, Austin Lopez, Elijah LeBlanc, Tanner Musser, Kaden Franklin, Joe McKay, Jonathan Cardile and Chase Callahan.
“The seniors are collectively, a very self motivated and hard working group,” commented Coryell.
This weekend the Cowboys will scrimmage in Moffat County on Saturday, their first game is against the North Fork Miners in Hotchkiss on Aug. 26 and their first home game will be Sept. 9.
