MEEKER | After an entire year without track in 2020, Meeker track and fielders head back to the state competition.
This year’s track season started late due to COVID and then ended about a month later than normal, requiring the athletes to be dedicated outside of their normal school year.
“I am proud of our kids and the coaching staff sticking with it through the summer,” commented head coach John Strate. “All of our kids work, so they had some really long days when you factor in work followed by practice.”

The state tracksters left last Wednesday for Thursday, Friday and Saturday competitions in Lakewood.
“Some of our performances were not quite what we were expecting,” said Strate, “but the kids stayed focused and bounced back well from some mistakes they made early in the meet”.
Meeker Cowboys making it to the podium this year were:
Fourth place – Boys 4×100-meter relay – Jeremy Woodward, Porter Hossack, Zach Eskelson, Kelton Turner
Fourth place – Girls 4×100-meter relay – Shyann Dilley, Savvy Mendenall, Aspen Merrifield, Sarah Kracht
Girls Discus – Hailey Knowles – sixth place
Boys 100-meter dash – Woodward – seventh place
Boys triple – Woodward – eighth place
Boys shot – Eskelson – eighth place
Boys pole vault – Clatterbaugh – eighth place
Girls pole vault – Aspen Merrifield – eighth place
Girls high jump – Ruby Holliday – eighth place
“We will miss our seniors next year,” Strate said. “They provided not only scoring at each meet, but they were fantastic leaders.
