The 3-1 Meeker Cowboys basketball team has had a bit of a break and eased into the new year last weekend. That all ends this weekend as it is full steam ahead with three games this week.
The Cowboys easily defeated the Little Snake Rattlers 59-33 last Thursday led by Jace Mobley with 21 points and Jonathan Fitzgibbons with 18.
“I would say one of the key factors is the team chemistry we have, given that we have played together since day one, and our work ethic,” Fitzgibbons told the HT. “We all go hard in practice, with one common goal in mind: to win. As I look forward to the next games and the rest of the season, I can’t wait to see all of us accomplish the high standards we’ve set for each other, striving to improve in practice and aiming to make it to state.”
Mobley and Fitzgibbons were responsible for the defensive charge with Fitzgibbons pulling down 21 rebounds and Mobley 11.
The last two games have been warm ups for what they are preparing for this weekend. The three teams they face, Roaring Fork, Olathe, and Grand Valley all have losing records, which will give some of the younger kids a chance to get their feet wet and see some varsity court time.
The Cowboys are creeping up the rankings and currently sitting at 11 in the MaxPreps poll.
Games on Friday and Saturday are both on the road in Olathe on Friday and then Grand Valley on Saturday.
