MEEKER | Fall is in the air and practices for the 2019 season began Aug. 12. The Meeker Cowboys cross country team began their season at 7 a.m. and are hitting the streets for two-a-day practices. The team is growing in number. Head coach Marty Casey said they have “eight new faces to the teams this year.” Pleased with his growing numbers, Casey has 15 runners on the team, including five freshmen, six sophomores, two juniors and seniors Josh Dinwiddie and Zach Harman.
Check out the Cowboy cross country schedule published this week in the paper. The first meet will be Saturday, Aug. 24 in Grand Junction at Matchett Park with running to begin at 8:30 a.m..
Casey is pleased and excited that the team is hosting a home meet this year.
“We are partnering with Pioneers Medical Center to have a citizens’ and middle school race, followed by high school races, on Friday, Aug. 30,” commented Casey. The Cowboy Gallop 5K will be run at the Meeker Golf Course; junior high races will start at 9 a.m., and the first high school race will begin at 9:45 a.m.
