Ed Davis of upper White mingled with his Meeker friends past few days.
The Sleepy Cat saw-mill closed up last week for the winter. There was too much snow to work.
It is said that there is from two to three feet of snow on the level in the Sleepy Cat mountain region. Of course there is still more at the higher altitudes.

While more and more signs of an oil shale boom show up daily, it appears that a few Meeker residents are jumping the gun a little bit. This week rumor of Superior Oil asking the Greely Gas Company to reserve gas for 67 homes to be built on the annexation is untrue. Dick Rhodes of Superior said Tuesday that there was no way that the rumor was true.
Claire Sullivan is again featured in “La Revue Moderne” a French magazine on the arts.
Looking for a fun two-day snow-mobiling holiday, the Troy “Buck” Pollards of Rangely were rather stunned last Wednesday when they found their summer home on Ute Creek on the Upper White River no longer existed. Apparently a fire had engulfed the home sometime after November 25, leaving only the fireplace standing. The fire apparently was not noticed before last Wednesday.

The Meeker Board of Education on Dec. 15 agreed to hire another first grade teacher, and split the class into three sections beginning early next year. There are 48 first grade students. With the additional teacher, the class sizes will average 16 pupils per class.
Greg Lamb, grade 11, was named the Meeker High School nominee in the Imation Computer Arts Scholarships program. In addition, David Taussig received a Certificate of Merit for artwork. Lamb is now eligible for national awards and scholarships. The top 100 entries will earn a National Certificate of Excellence.
The 1998 Cross Country program celebrated an extremely successful season at their pot-luck banquet December first.

The Rangely Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Christmas Family Treasure Hunt between now and Christmas.
Tuesday, December 18 at the College Auditorium starting at 8 p.m. Soprano Wanda Bautts and accompanist Virginia Bock will present Christmas selections for the enjoyment of the community.
On Wednesday, December 5, the Rangely Chapter of National Honor Society inducted five new members: Susie Hillis, Mickie AuMiller, Nancy Rutherford, Lois Barnhart, and Pam Kendall.

A Mays Construction Company of Grand Junction late-model pickup truck took a lickin’ after a company employee drove into the rear end of another pickup truck on Main Street in Rangely at 1:39 p.m. on Dec. 15. The Mays truck bumper was considerably lower than the other truck’s reinforced rear bumper with a class 1 hitch, so the grill and everything behind it took the full force of the impact.
Between noon on December 7 and noon on December 8, someone shot a buck off of County Road 2. The only part of the deer that was taken was the head.
Dr. Mullen reports to the Rangely School Board that the market timing, lower interest rates, and bond sale decisions combined with a generous grant from county commissioners’ CCITF fund to save local taxpayers approximately $250,000 on the school district’s bond issue.
