One evening last week as State Game Warden J.S. Swan was crossing the state bridge at Glenwood he met a heavily laden pack animal, and upon investigation, he found it loaded with deer killed before the season opened. The offender was John Wetzill a guide who had been out with a party of Texas tourists. Pleading guilty he was fined $25 and costs.
School began this week with a fairly good attendance. Owing to illness Miss Sara Carson, one of the teachers, did not arrive until Thursday evening, but Mrs. A. H. Adams occupied her place temporarily.
Duncan Blair returned from the Four Mile section Wednesday, and is a very sick man, the result of being thrown from a horse over a month ago. Among others who are taking care of Mr. Blair are Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sanderson who deserve special commendation.

That old song “When the Leaves Begin to Fall” is now in order.
J B Dade of upper White was a town visitor, Monday.
The eclipse of the sun was observed in Meeker Monday afternoon with more or less interest. At this point, the moon obscured over one-half of the great luminary of the day. At San Diego and southern California generally, the eclipse was total.
Fred Mobley and the boys from Angora were town visitors early part of this week.

Forty-four junior high boys have completed two weeks of practice and Coach Sam Barone, in charge of the eighth grade, thinks that the two junior high teams are going to play decent ball because of their exceptional attitude. Coach Herb Oba, head of the seventh grade corps is well pleased with the progress and learning of his boys.
Brad Irwin and Steve Gianinetti, who left Meeker on an extended vacation the 6th of July, are now employed in New York. The two are with the National Cash Register Company.
Colorado’s 1973 antelope hunting season will get underway on September 22 and continue through September 24 in all but 3 areas of the state.
4,910 licenses have been distributed through public drawing for which over 15,000 applications were made.

An out of town motorist, apparently unfamiliar with the RBC 8 east of Meeker, lost control of his vehicle just after sunset about 11 miles upriver. The small car left the pavement, spun around, and crashed backwards into a power pole, snapping off the pole. The driver and his three male passengers were apparently unharmed, and live electrical wires did not touch anything. White River Electric Association crews replaced the pole shortly after 9 p.m., and upriver consumers were without power for less than 30 minutes while the new pole was installed and wired up.
Ulli Felix, 17, and Alejandra Castro, 17, are the International Education Forum exchange students in Meeker for this school year. Feliz is a senior from Schifferstadt, Germany. Castro, also a senior, hails from Quito, Equador. Castro’s hosts are the Veronica and Lon Denney family, and the Chris and Lynn Carroll family is hosting Felix for the school year.
Dale Frisby got a hole in one Wednesday, September 2 at Meeker Golf Course. The great shot happened on hole 2 par 3 and was 150 yards. Frisby says it was his first hole in one and will probably be his only one.

Miss Katherine Tipps is a new member of The Rangely Times staff.
She will write the social and other local items for the Times and also a column of Dinosaur news.
Bud Tomlinson, a local cowboy, was named “All Around Cowboy” at the first annual rodeo presented by the Cathedral Land and Cattle Co. here last weekend.
Rangely College has just completed the Eleventh Annual Cheerleaders Clinic with a total enrollment of 191 participants. This was the largest clinic in the College’s history with participants coming from many different areas of the state of Colorado.

At the regular meeting of the Rangely Town Council on Tuesday, Sept, 8, Chevron’s Keith Eilers came to speak about the Y2K problem. His presentation was not on the IRS’s computer system the crash of the world market, but it was about what problems are projected for communities like Rangely if Y2K proves to be a reality.
Rangely residents will have the opportunity to meet with College representatives on Monday, September 21, 1998, from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the CNCC Weiss Center Multi Purpose Room. Several colleges and universities in Colorado will have representatives visiting the CNCC-Rangely campus for the Colorado Council Stranger Fair.
The Rangely 4-H had a big time hosting their first Kiss a Fish Contest. On Labor Day at Septemberfest State Trooper Garrett Reich had to kiss a fish because his can had the most money in it. The money was raised for the Rangely 4-H Council to pay for educational trips, materials, and 4-H functions and awards.
