Sister Josie Drussell was serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines (Tagalog speaking). She began her mission in October 2019 and returned to the United States in March due to COVID-19. Her missionary purpose was to serve others in the ways that Jesus Christ would, and help them draw nearer to Him.
“It was really cool being a missionary in a third world country because we had the opportunity to serve the people in a very literal way. My companion and I would teach people lessons about Jesus Christ, but we were also able to help them with land clearance, fishing, and harvesting. During rice season, my companion and I would go out every evening to help the farmers bag their rice. Before we left the country we were able to give food to different families because many feared food shortages as the capital city went into lockdown. I loved having the opportunity to serve people through ‘sit-down’ lessons as well as humanitarian work,” Drussell said.
She will be returning to the University of Virginia this fall to study biology and global public health.
