MEEKER | Meeker Cross Country was in Craig again on Friday at Moffat County’s Whistle Pig Invitational, held at the Yampa Valley Golf Course. The boys ran first, and Shane Kobald kept a good pace, finishing first for the Cowboys, and 13th overall, at 19:32. Gabe Richardson and Ethan Drake were next, at 20:05 and 20:23, and 15th and 16th places. Ashdon Seibert, Owen Hannemann and Gage Richardson ran well together for most of the race, and finished closely as well, 32nd through 34th places at 21:41, 21:47, and 21:48, respectively. Gabe Smithers earned himself a new personal record (PR) of 22:30 with his 35th place finish. The boys team finished in fifth place.
Brighton Bair led the Cowboys in the girls’ race, 11th place at 22:42. Savannah Mendenhall ran well, with a new PR of 23:06, for 14th place. Ainsley Selle was the lady Cowboys’ third scorer this week in 22nd place at 24:57, a new PR as well. Nora Gianinetti suffered a fall early in the race, but still finished in 23rd place at 25:31. Aiyana McCook and Sarah Kracht helped each other through the last half of the course, and finished in 26:52 and 26:58 (a new PR for Sarah), for 32nd and 33rd places overall. The girls took third place as a team.
“This was a completely new course, flat and fast, and the times reflected that. We had several new PRs, which will hopefully set us up well for regionals.”
The regional competition is at Confluence Park in Delta on Friday, with the girls’ race at noon, and the boys to follow at 12:45 p.m.
