The Bureau of Land Management and cooperating partners are planning a wild-horse-gather in the Piceance East-Douglas Herd Management Area on July 15. Ongoing bait-trap, range monitoring and related activities leading up to the gather are already underway. Approximately 300 horses will be returned to the range post gather.
CORRECTION: The print version of this story said that White River Conservancy district was involved in planning the horse gather. BLM’s White River Field Office, supported by a contracted livestock roundup company, are the only organizations that will conduct the gather. The White River Conservation District does not have any role in the gather. Piceance Mustangs will have an advisory role – they will provide recommendations on which horses will be returned to the range.
