MEEKER | Cowboy Cross Country traveled to Craig for the Moffat County Invitational at Loudy Simpson Park. It was “ladies first” on Saturday, with Brighton Bair leading the Cowboys once again. She finished 17th overall, in 23:47. Nora Gianinetti was less than a minute behind, at 24:44 and 23rd place. Savannah Mendenhall was just a few places back in 26th place at 24:57. Ainsley Selle and Aiyana McCook stayed together for most of the race, and finished closely as well, 27:20 and 27:25, for 33rd and 34th places, respectively. Sarah Kracht pulled away from her competitor near the finish for 35th place, at 28:47. The girls took fifth place as a team.
In the boys’ race, Gabe Richardson took 28th place at 21:07. Ethan Drake and Shane Kobald stuck with each other to the finish, at 21:12 and 21:13, and 29th and 30th places. Gage Richardson had his best race of the season by more than a minute, 33rd at 21:34. Ashdon Seibert was a few places behind in 38th, at 22:17. Gabe Smithers finished in 40th place, with a new personal record of 23:20. Owen Hannemann was two places behind, at 23:54. The boys were sixth place in team scoring.
Meeker will be competing in Moffat County again on Friday at the Yampa Valley Golf Course, with the boys racing first, at 5:30 p.m.
“We saw some good efforts this week, among some solid competition. We still have room, and time, for improvement before the regional meet.”
