A year ago, the leadership of the Colorado Community College System, including members of its Board of Trustees, embarked on a statewide listening tour to hear from employees and students across its 13 community colleges. The goal? To understand the needs and expectations of those they serve and incorporate them into a strategic plan with a five-year vision for the future.
As part of this effort, CNCC employees and students at both Rangely and Craig provided input. The president collaborated with board and system team members, as well as other CCCS presidents, to shape the plan’s vision, values and goals.
In 2023, CNCC unveiled its own five-year strategic plan. It is now being executed as a means to achieve the 2025–2030 CCCS Strategic Plan, “Transforming Futures.”
The Vision: CCCS will be the first and best path for all to achieve a more prosperous and fulfilling life.
The Values (abbreviated): Learners First; Educational Excellence; Culture of Belonging; Bold and Creative Leadership; Community Advancement.
Goals and what they mean for CNCC over the next five years:
Economic Mobility: Expand offerings that lead to sustaining wages. CNCC continues to strengthen and add programs such as cybersecurity and radiologic technology.
Education for All: Create equitable, learner-centered environments. CNCC has invested more than $20 million in Rangely campus improvements and will oversee $10 million more. The Craig campus is undergoing a market study for on-campus housing and will be eligible for upgrades in the coming years.
Empowered Talent: Strengthen the workforce. CNCC has increased salaries 40% in recent years, launched its first faculty sabbatical program, and invested in tuition reimbursement and professional development guided by employee feedback.
Partner of Choice: Build trust and collaboration. CNCC partners with other colleges and industries to expand offerings and support workforce needs. With its high PayScale ranking and 2025 Governor’s Award for Zero Textbook Costs, CNCC is a college of choice.
Power of 13: Leverage consortia for shared growth. CNCC works with the Rural College Consortium and Colorado Online to reduce costs and improve access by sharing classes, services and staff resources—expanding student options and efficiency systemwide.
Leaders across the system are proud of this plan and are committed to implementing it with energy and openness. It demonstrates what’s possible when everyone has a voice.
DR. LISA JONES
