MEEKER | The Meeker High School girls golf team wrapped up its season with two late tournaments, finishing the year with continued progress and development across a young roster.
Last week, the Cowboys competed in the Rifle Bears Invitational on April 27 at Rifle Golf Course, finishing seventh overall as a team with a score of 492 (+204).
Junior Kailynn Watson led Meeker with a round of 111 (+39). Junior Liliana Hernandez followed at 125 (+53), while freshman MacKenzie Denney posted a 123 (+51). Sophomore Althea Halstead shot 135 (+63) and freshman Gracelynn Vierra added a 133 (+61).
The tournament marked another late-season outing for Meeker, which continued to gain competitive experience with a roster featuring upperclassmen leadership and underclassmen developing through varsity play.
Earlier this week, the Cowboys closed out their 2026 season at the Lady Bulldog Open on May 4 in Craig, finishing fourth overall with a team score of 369 (+153).
Junior Liliana Hernandez led the Cowboys with a round of 109 (+37). Junior Kailynn Watson followed with a 124 (+52), while freshman MacKenzie Denney and freshman Jordyn Garcia each shot 136 (+64).
Head coach Amanda Back said the final tournament was a meaningful end to the season.
“They did awesome. It was bittersweet being the last tournament of the season,” Back said.
She noted that weather played a role in the round, but the team handled it well.
“It was interesting weather, but they persevered,” she said.
Looking at the full season, Back said the growth from start to finish was significant.
“They have grown so much and have overcome fears. I’m incredibly proud of the entire team,” she said.
As the Cowboys turn to the offseason, Back said the focus will be on fundamentals.
“Getting their swings more consistent and working on their club selections,” she said.
She added that she is optimistic about what the program can become moving forward.
“We keep the momentum going. I know they have a lot of potential and I am so proud to be a coach of these kids. We are so fortunate—we have the best kids in Meeker,” Back said.
The season featured steady improvement across the roster, with Meeker gaining valuable varsity experience and building depth that will carry into next year. A great season for the Cowboys. Go Cowboys!
