HopeWest invites community to“Jesters & Generosity” fundraising event

Special to the HT

MEEKER | HopeWest’s annual fundraiser returns June 13 with a day full of medieval-inspired fun, during  this year’s Jesters and Generosity. This community fundraiser supports local HopeWest  programs and services.

An event unlike any other in Meeker, the day begins with a cornhole tournament at 10 a.m. at  the Meeker Downtown Plaza, featuring a Calcutta and cash prizes. The celebration continues at  5 p.m. at the Fairfield Center, where guests will enjoy champagne and hors d’oeuvres, dinner by  Elk Creek Ranch, live and silent auctions, music, and dancing.

“It’s a way for the entire community to participate, celebrate the spirit of community, and  support the mission of HopeWest,” said Diana Jones, HopeWest Program Director in Meeker.  “Because our programs are fully funded by philanthropy, this event is critically important each  year.”

HopeWest was built by the community, for the community, and today, HopeWest continues to  expand services for families across the Meeker area. Funds raised from this year’s event will  support local HopeWest palliative care and grief support for families, including the HopeWest  Kids program. The event will also highlight the growing need for dementia support services and  the community effort underway to bring HopeWest’s newest program to Meeker.

For Connor Blunt, owner of Blunt Aviation and Colorado Fencing Services and an underwriter  for this year’s event, supporting HopeWest is personal.

“Giving back to the community that has given so much to me, means everything,” said Blunt.  “Anything we can do to help HopeWest grow and give other families support is worth it. Money  isn’t the only way to give — giving your time can make more of a difference than you think.”

This year’s event is truly a community-wide effort. Volunteers from across Meeker help bring  the day to life, from setting up the cornhole tournament and decorating the venue to serving  meals and assisting guests throughout the evening. Local students, Friends of FFA, and youth

groups are helping with catering, hospitality, gaining valuable life skills, and volunteer  experience in the process.

The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council is also joining the festivities, with local youth dressed as  jesters, lords, and ladies in costumes from recent theater productions. The Lions Club will  provide lunch during the cornhole tournament and assist with beverage service during the gala.

Community businesses from Meeker, Glenwood Springs, and Grand Junction have generously  donated auction items and experiences, including adventure packages, spa experiences, pool  passes, excursions, and more.

“It’s the kindness and generosity of this community that makes events like this possible,” Jones  said. “So many people here have been touched by HopeWest in some way. Their willingness to  give their time, talents, and resources reflects the incredible heart of this community.”

Community members are encouraged to attend, volunteer, or donate in support of HopeWest  services in Meeker. For more information or to register, visit HopeWestco.org/meeker cornhole-tournament-gala or contact Diana Jones at (970) 878-9383 or  [email protected].

HopeWest’s volunteers and staff help bring the annual fundraising gala to life every year. This year’s event is medieval-themed, and begins with a cornhole tournament at 10 a.m. in the downtown courthouse plaza. At 5 p.m. the event — which is the primary fundraiser for the HopeWest program in Meeker for the year — moves to the Fairfield Center for hors d’oeuvres, dinner, live music, dancing, and live and silent auctions.

It takes a coordinated effort to set everything up for a full-scale gala event. Community members are encouraged to attend, volunteer, or donate in support of HopeWest services in Meeker. For more information, call 970-878-9383.
