The 3-5 lady Cowboys won at home but couldn’t get it done on the road last weekend.
Hosting Roaring Fork Wednesday with a huge 68-38 win, two Cowboys led in scoring: Ainsley Selle with 19 and Jayden Overton wil 10.
“Roaring Fork was such a fun game, the girls were clicking on defense together and making great passes and had great shot selection,” commented head coach Jamie Rogers.
Selle had eight defensive rebounds and offensive for a team lead of 16 and Reese Clatterbaugh had 13 total.
Friday at Olathe the Pirates took a lead that the Cowboys were never able to catch.
“Brea Garcia went down in the second quarter of the game with a sprained ankle, so we were missing her for a game and a half and had to make some adjustments,” said Rogers.
Selle and Charlie Rogers, scoring eight and nine points respectively, combined for almost half of the total points.
“We were rushing shots and passes and their defense was very good, so we will continue to work on controlling our offense regardless of what their defense is doing,” commented Rogers.
After a long trip home the team turned around and headed to Grand Valley, a team which placed fourth at state last year and returned most of their girls.
“Grand Valley is a very good team,” said Rogers, “I am so proud of how hard the girls worked the entire game.”
Final score 36-75.
Once again Selle was one of the top scorers for the Cowboys, she tied with eight points for the lead with Rylee Sullivan and Ellie Hossack. Sullivan also led off the boards with eight rebounds.
This week the Cowboys are getting ready for Gunnison on Friday. “They have a good sophomore guard and run a man defense,” commented Rogers.
Saturday they will host Cedaredge. “They always run a good press and they have at least one fast guard and a big post,” said Rogers.
Game time Friday is 4 p.m. and Saturday is 1 p.m., both days beginning with JV.
