Lady Cowboys celebrate season

Senior girls Becca de Vergie, Chanler May, Tina Bain, Tia McKee and Laura Glass all spoke at the annual basketball banquet.

Tuesday, March 22, the Lady Cowboys celebrated a spectacular ending to a tumultuous season. The senior parents hosted a banquet for the team, coaches and their families. Every girl on the team received an award and three players were given all-conference nods during the banquet.

Meeker C Team coach David Snell started the night with a recap of their season. Each player was recognized and given a certificate of participation. Junior varsity coach Mike Dinwiddie followed with his own presentation of awards for every individual player. The varsity players all earned a varsity letter along with a personal story from coach Deb Henderson.
Part of this yearly banquet is to reward the all-conference and all-state players. The coaches in the conference vote on players who have performed above and beyond. Sophomore Kaysyn Chintala with her speedy steals and quick hands earned the all-conference honorable mention award. The all-conference awards went to seniors Laura Glass and Rebecca de Vergie. The coaches felt that Glass was a driving force under the basket this year. Not only did 6-2 post de Vergie dominate her competition locally, she was also invited to play in the all-state game.
Senior players Tina Bain, Rebecca de Vergie, Laura Glass and Chanler May, as well as senior manager Tia McKee were sent off with kind words and gifts from the coaches and senior parents. The girls all took a moment to thank their parents, coaches and teammates. The girls presented the coaches with gifts to close the banquet.
