The No. 21 ranked Meeker Cowboys girls’ basketball team finished the regular season and headed straight into district pigtails Tuesday.
In the Thursday and Saturday final games the Cowboys came away with two wins 44-30 against Aspen and 57-38 against North Fork. Ainsley Selle put up big numbers with 19 points on Thursday to lead the Cowboys. The win helped to maintain the Cowboys in the top 32 so they would get a chance to play in a regional.
Saturday the win was led by Rylee Sullivan with 18, Ellie Hossack with 15, and Addie Knowles 14. The trio kept the pace moving that North Fork couldn’t keep up with and the Cowboys finished the regular season 10-9 but in the league 8-6.
The Tuesday pigtail was a battle between the Cedaredge Bruins and the Cowboys. This was the third time the two teams met and the third time the Bruins won by five points or less.
The Tuesday loss means the Cowboys will not be continuing in district play, but the loss will likely not impact the ranking so much that the Cowboys will not make it to regionals. Only the top eight teams host regionals and that means the Cowboys will hit the road, location TBD.
