MEEKER I The lady Cowboys basketball season came to an end last Friday with a loss against Wray in the opening game of regionals. They ended the season 12-11.
“We started out really well in the shootout in the beginning of the season,” commented head coach Jamie Rogers, “then played some really good teams. Grand Valley was one of those teams and they made it to the Elite 8 and so has Cedaredge.”
The score at the half did not reflect what happened in the first half of play.
“We were down 21-9 in the first quarter and then they would battle back,” said Rogers. “We went to the half six points down and we were really excited. In the second half Wray made a little run and we just couldn’t recover.”
At one point in the second the Cowboys were tied 30 all with Wray and in the last minute they allowed a few points.
“They kept working until the end, that is all you can ask for, just keep going,” Rogers said.
The final score was 78-57.
Cowboy seniors on varsity were Hadley Franklin, Sarah Kracht, Savannah Mendenhall, Hailey Knowles and MyKayla Wille.
In the final game Franklin had six points, three rebounds and one steal, Kracht had 24 points, six rebounds and seven steals, Mendenhall had two steals, Knowles had 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals, and Wille had two points three rebounds and one steal.
