After the last few weeks with back to back games and games in the middle of the week, the Cowboy volleyball team had a bit of respite last week with only one game.
“It was a much needed one match weekend,” commented head coach Greg Cravens.
Meeker played Grand Valley for their Pink Out night, a tradition that continues from year to year for these two teams to meet up to increase breast cancer awareness.
“They always do a great job with breast cancerawareness and it is always great to be part of it,” said Cravens, “and we had a good match.”
Junior setter Ellie Hossack is enjoying the one game weekend, “These past weeks’ games have been super fun,” began Hossack, “We had a one game weekend against Grand Valley and won 3-0, this game we really worked together and finished strong.”
Senior middle hitter Nora Gianinetti was injured a couple weeks ago and still does not have a time to return. Reese Clatterbaugh has had to step into the middle hitter position and Ariel Gallegos has come off of the bench to play outside hitter.
“Reese is showing how athletic she is,” commented Cravens. “She worked hard this week figuring out how to get kills out of the middle and she did well Friday night with four kills.”
The Cowboys won, sweeping the Cardinals, 25-10, 25-14, 25-14.
“We didn’t serve as well as we have done in the past,” said Cravens. “We hope to see some improvement this week against North Park where we only have one varsity match in Walden.”
Hossack echoed what Cravens had to say, “this weekend we will play North Park will be a scrappy game and we will need to be focused on the bus ride down, as long as we have good serves and place the ball on their court we will be good!”
Game time Friday is at 5 p.m.
