MEEKER I Regular season ended and the first round of the postseason was wrapped-up for the Lady Cowboys. For the last week they went 3-1 and sealed third place in the league.
Thursday at Plateau Valley it was a tough loss 43-39.
“We stayed with them until the fourth quarter,” began head coach Jamie Rogers, “then we just couldn’t score and you can’t win a game when you don’t score.”
Sarah Kracht led the way for Meeker with 14 points and Hailey Knowles had 7.
In game two of their three game weekend series, Meeker came out strong early, with a commanding lead of 30-14 at the half and finished 59-35.
Once again Kracht broke double digit scoring to lead the team with 18 points while also pulling down seven rebounds grabbing four steals. Knowles also in the double digits scored 13 points.
In game three the Cowboys met up with West Grand, a game that should have been a double header as they met up in the pigtails of districts. In game one of their matchup the Cowboys
came out of top 64-31 while on the road.
In game two, the first round of regionals, the Cowboys were on their home court. At the half they had a good lead but in the fourth they allowed West Grand to come within six points at one point. They picked up steam and held them off for the win 64-44.
“The fourth quarter was a little scary,” said Rogers, “but we gathered ourselves and fought back.”
The Cowboys will now play in the semifinals, taking on once again Plateau Valley, game time is 6 pm in Debeque.
