MEEKER I The lady Cowboys had a preseason, in-house scrimmage last Saturday in preparation for the real thing this Friday.
Head coach Greg Cravens said he has four returning starters this season: seniors Emma Luce and Nora Gianinetti and juniors Ainsley Selle and Ellie Hossack. “We have a lot of positions to fill and I was concerned we wouldn’t be able to fill the defensive positions, but now I’m not. We have three or four younger girls that are new that will see some varsity time and it is encouraging how they have picked it up and defensively we can pick up the ball and I know we have someone that can put it back down.”
Assisting Cravens again this year is Kaylene Turner and Clea Steerman, both Meeker school teachers.
The Cowboys open up the season Friday in Plateau Valley with C, JV and varsity games beginning at 4 p.m. Their first home game is next Saturday when they host Hayden.
