MEEKER | It was a nail biter last Friday evening as the lady Cowboy basketball team battled it out against the Grand Valley Cardinals, from Parachute, Colo. With a win in overtime with a score of 53-51, the team is now 4-1 on the season. The Cardinals were 5-0 as coming into Meeker, but the Cowboys had “a great second half,” according to head coach Jamie Rogers. Leading scoring were seniors Tori Lasker, Megan Shelton and Gracie Bradfield, each breaking double digits.
“The team did not play well in the first half,” commented Rogers, “we were flat on defense and not finishing on offense.” Leading the defensive stats were Bradfield, Shelton and Julia Dinwiddie. Offensively both Shelton and Dinwiddie each sank a three-pointer. At the half the score was 26-14, Grand Valley.
“The girls came out of halftime ready to battle back into the game,” Rogers said. By the end of the third quarter the team had made up almost all of the points and was just down one, 36-35, Grand Valley. In overtime the the Cowboys outscored 2-1 and took the win.
This Friday the team will travel to Rifle, Colo., to take on the Bears before they head into Christmas break. Game time is set at 4 p.m. Next home game is in 2019. The Cowboys will host North Park at home on Jan. 5.
