Dear Editor:
My name is Mona Avey and I would like to respectfully announce my decision to run for Rio Blanco County Commissioner District 3 in 2020.
I am a long-time resident of Rio Blanco County and a descendent of White River pioneer families. I grew up and was educated in Rio Blanco County. My husband and my work careers took us to various states of our great country. I have 25 years of background in departmental management, budget responsibilities, supervising staff, developing and executing policies and procedures to meet state and federal requirements which included disaster plans, drills and necessary evacuations. We returned to Rio Blanco County in 2006 and I worked in the Rio Blanco County Assessor’s office for 10 years on energy and local assessments, which would include attending county commissioner meetings for personal property valuation issues. Since my retirement in 2017 I have been an active supporter of the commissioners’ role to maintain Rio Blanco County as one of the best places to work and live in the State of Colorado. My strong work ethic and local background supports my goal to become a part of this important group of committed individuals to offer Rio Blanco citizens an economically strong and healthy community.
What can you expect should you allow me the opportunity to serve as Rio Blanco County Commissioner? First and foremost, I will listen to your issues with an open mind and respect for your concerns and ideas. I believe any issue can be resolved with a healthy dose of “common sense.” I have a strong commitment to the citizens of Rio Blanco County and I want to work with you to support existing business and infrastructure while at the same time, work to encourage growth.
The residents of Rio Blanco County enjoy the benefit of living in a scenic valley rich in history and natural resources. Both are extremely valuable and must always be protected.
Rio Blanco County is a special place where one’s hopes and dreams can be realized whether it involves developing or maintaining a small business, working in the energy field, supporting our agriculture base or enjoying our recreational opportunities.
I am always available for conversation whether in person or on Facebook.
Sincerely,
Mona Avey
