Letter: Find the blessings

Dear Editor:

I’m not a person that likes to be in the eyes of the public, but felt the need to express my thoughts on hate, contempt and anger, especially in this current state of our world and within our county.

Yes, I’m a believer in God, although I may not attend church, I am certain that my faith and belief is what gets me through life.  Every day I rely on Him and feel His presence.  Feelings of hate anger, hopeless and even depression can consume me, but God remains in my heart and gives me hope and strength to move forward and find the blessings in my life.

In our present messed up world and what I see happening in the county, this is when we should be finding the blessings and living life to the fullest.  I’m sure that it is much easier to feel anger, hate and contempt towards those who have done us wrong and when life has dealt us a bad hand.  In reality, the only person who pays the cost of these feelings is you.  If you hate someone or the situation you are in, you’re paying this cost to have things of value taken from you.  Mainly, your peace of mind, love of other people and openness to the world.

Poison isn’t always something we eat or drink, it can be an emotion.  For instance, hate and anger.  These mental emotions can pollute your spirit, poison your soul and seep into all of the relationships that surround you.  If you have found yourself wrapped up in the arms of hatred and anger, you know how damaging and mind-consuming it can become.

At the heart of all hatred is blame, this is particularly true for hatred turned outward.  If you feel like you’ve been seriously wronged or victimized by someone, your discontent and anger carry with it the seeds of hatred.  The more you hold onto hatred, the more likely it is that the hot coal of these negative emotions will burn you.  Hate, whether turned inward or out, creates a destructive state of mind that wreaks havoc with your physical health and emotional well-being.  The sooner we rid ourselves of negative and toxic emotions, the less damage it can do and the healthier and happier you’ll be.

Make today the day you address the darkness and let the sunshine in again.  Do not surrender yourself to the power of hate, anger and contempt.  Value your peace of mind, the love of others and open your eyes to what is good and the blessings of family, health, love and most importantly peace of mind.
