Dear Editor:
What were you thinking? Paige Jones rant about a lack of bars and hot springs rates a ‘guest column’ in your paper? Not only did you give her an opportunity that she goes out of town when she plans to behave badly, you allowed her to take an undeserved pot shot at a business in town.
I am sorry Paige is unhappy here. I am sorry we do not have a bowling alley or a hot spring or a movie theater here for her. I am sorry she has to go to a mom and pop pharmacy instead of a Walgreens. I am sorry that I am having to be mean to a young woman that regretted having written the article the day it was printed. No matter where you go — there you are.
Just because Meeker is not like every place else in America is not a legitimate reason for change. Why do we embrace diversity in all things and not embrace what makes our town different? There are empty storefronts in every town in America. It is a shame, but effort and economics will deal with that. Is chance bad? No. Is change for change sake good? No.
You as a newspaper failed Paige and our community by printing this kind of babble and giving it the legitimacy of ‘guest column.’ We need a paper that does not throw our 20-somethings under the bus because they are too lazy to write well-thought-out articles or relegate rants to the op/ed section if they have to print it.
Shame on you.
David Arnold
