Letter: Pageant is seeking a new director

For 72 years, the people of Meeker, Colorado have come together once a year to put on the Meeker Massacre Pageant. The pageant is a unique and special part of our community’s history and a true piece of Americana. It relies entirely on volunteerism, and every year there are young and old, new and veteran volunteers. Some of our volunteers have participated in the pageant for over 30 years. The only way for a community tradition like the pageant to continue in the future is for new volunteers to come forward. I have enjoyed my 17 years of involvement with the Meeker Massacre Pageant; it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience.
After 15 years of directing the pageant, I’m ready to pass the torch to a new director. I hope that someone will step forward who can share my passion and love for this amazing production. This July, Range Call celebrates its 125th year. As a part of that celebration, I’m excited to be directing my final pageant. However, the pageant’s uncertain future worries me. Range Call must have someone come forward who is willing to take over direction of the pageant after this year. Ideally, we would like to find a new director before this year’s pageant. I would like for a new director to observe and lend a hand with this year’s pageant and be ready to take over in 2011. If you are interested in taking over direction of the Meeker Massacre Pageant, contact Andrea Harmon at 878-9640. If you have questions about the position, feel free to email me at leftystew@yahoo.com or give me a call at (970) 261-5699.
