LETTERS TO THE EDITOR – June 4th, 2026

Thanks and concerns from a resident

Dear Editor:

First, thanks to whomever cut the bushes down by the parts store on the highway. You can now use the sidewalk in front of where the bushes were!

Another thing, two years ago someone broke into our car and stole our chairs that had roofs and cup holders. Shame!

This Memorial Day we went up to pick up our decorations off my parents’ graves, my sister and my twin brother. The decorations were gone. Shame! Shame!

Another thing: We need to bring back bicycle education. Don’t ride on the sidewalks. That’s why we have bicycle lanes. One day a friend of mine was trying to turn on to Third Street from Main and two kids were on either side of her on their electric bicycles. She had to stop and let them by. Not cool! Dangerous!

A concerned citizen,

Joan Bates

Travis Mobley for Sheriff

Dear Editor:

I am writing to offer my strong support and endorsement for Travis Mobley as he seeks the office of Sheriff.

Travis brings over 30 years of experience with the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, beginning his career in 1996. He started working in the jail, went on to graduate from the academy in 2004, and served as a patrol deputy, Sergeant, and Investigator before earning his current role as Undersheriff in 2022. This progression speaks not only to his dedication, but also to the trust and respect he has earned throughout his career.

As a lifelong member of Rio Blanco County, Travis has deep roots in the community. He understands the people, values, and challenges of this area because this is his home. He views the county as an extension of his own family, and that perspective is reflected in his commitment to protect, serve, and lead with integrity.  I know Travis has a strong moral foundation and is a man of his word, faithfully honoring the oaths he has sworn to uphold. He is a devoted family man; his marriage of over 25 years and the example he has set for his four children—who have grown and pursued higher education—reflect his commitment, integrity, and determination to see things through.

Travis is committed to maintaining law and order while also safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the citizens he serves. He understands that effective law enforcement is built on trust, and he has consistently demonstrated the ability to build strong relationships with residents, ranchers, business owners, oil and gas operators, and community organizations.

His leadership is grounded in experience, accountability, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of this community. I am confident that Travis Mobley has the character, experience, and vision necessary to serve as an outstanding Sheriff for Rio Blanco County.

I strongly encourage your support for Travis Mobley.

Sincerely,

Anthony Mazzola

Rio Blanco County Sheriff
