Amick for Anderson

Dear Editor:

During my last two terms as Rio Blanco County Clerk, I was fortunate to work alongside Pam Anderson, then serving as the Jefferson County Clerk. I found her to be a dedicated public servant, energetic in her duties and enthusiastic in her desire to serve the voters of her county.  I believe her to be a perfect fit for Secretary of State and repeatedly encouraged her to run.

Colorado is fortunate to have a candidate of Pam Anderson’s caliber running for this vital position.  She is a proven leader, extensively knowledgeable in our election processes, highly esteemed and respected in the election arena.  Pam will bring needed “boots-on-the-ground” experience and verifiable credentials to the Secretary of State’s office, focusing on the processes and not the politics.

During my tenure as Rio Blanco County Clerk, I was passionate about conducting our elections. Pam shares that same passion for fairness and preserving the integrity of voting in Colorado.

In this upcoming election, I will entrust my vote to Pam Anderson for Colorado Secretary of State and encourage you to do the same.

Nancy Amick

Thank you, teachers. Thank you, Meghan Lukens.

Dear Editor:

Thank you to our teachers. The teachers in our community have the incredible role and responsibility of supporting our students and preparing them for their future. Each and everyday teachers work tirelessly to make sure that our kids are receiving the best education possible.

Teachers in our rural schools also face additional challenges due to limited resources, underfunding, and staffing shortages. Education has been central in my life, and we need to move forward with leaders equally focused on education because education has a direct impact on the future. Leaders like Meghan Lukens understand this responsibility.

Thank you to Meghan Lukens. Meghan is a teacher running for the Colorado House of Representatives in House District 26, which now includes Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt, and Eagle counties. She understands the need to ensure that education systems in Colorado are fairly supported so that our students have access to the best resources available.

Meghan is a great example of an educator and leader fighting for the future. She brings an intelligent and caring approach to solving problems for our communities. She will advocate for responsible solutions to our concerns. She listens with humility and empathy. We need more kind, passionate teachers in the State Legislature.

Thank you to everyone who supports our teachers and students because that makes our communities stronger. Thank you to Meghan Lukens for being an exemplary teacher and leader for our students, our educators, and our communities.

A vote for Meghan is a vote for our future.

A fresh perspective

Dear Editor:

My introduction to Colorado last year was met with: smoky skies (thanks Pacific Northwest), huge tracts of uninhabited land for endless miles, stunning mountain passes and cows. Lots and lots of cows. I settled in between two clean coal plants in a village called Hayden. Which I now call home. Lucky me! A New England girl who used to measure hours spent traveling by how many states and cities I’d pass through, can now drive miles and never see urban sprawl! Yay!

Alas, I’m from Vermont. Long winters and rural lifestyle are familiar. What is shocking though was your politics! Wolves, reliable energy destruction, and sky high cost of living! Sorry, but even Bernie wouldn’t  stand for this mess! He supports affordability after all! Yes, it’s 3x as expensive here as back East!

The Western Slope is fundamentally different from the Front Range. Yet, seemingly the Boulder ideology has dominated the policies for here? Wild as it sounds, it crept in because folks were: too busy to vote? pay attention? I don’t know. It’s happened though. Residents believe the plentiful supply of Colorado coal and natural gas is doomed. Affordable housing will forever be out of reach, etc. They’re hunkering down, dreading escalating energy bills, preparing to move family if needed, and generally accepting it. Why? Why are we letting this happen? We have choices! There’s an opportunity in November to completely alter this trajectory!

Let’s pivot from totalitarian politics (hello, divisive—our way or else!) to a genuine servant for the Western Slope: Savannah Wolfson — someone trying to raise her family, and livestock, here. Like you.

By definition, a “representative” is a chosen voice for many. We need a true representative, not someone who wants to “lead”! Lead us where? We elect officials to uphold our values, not school us on theirs. It’s a house race, not a coaching position. Perhaps that’s why it’s called “House of Representatives,” huh?

The choice is glaring in this race for Colorado House District 26. Either cave to the Boulder agenda or fight it! Be heard! We don’t have the luxury of time at this point. Live your dream here and ensure your kids can as well. Vote for the candidate that wants to “represent” you. Not the one that pledges to “lead” us, to God knows where? Vote for Savannah Wolfson, for Colorado House Representative District 26.
