LOOSE ENDS: Facing future pandemics

The re-emergence of various bouts of post-pandemic viruses has gotten people questioning  what we will be  facing in the future. Are we stuck with a few different strains of the original Covid-19 virus? What does it mean for our children’s and grandchildren’s health in the future?

Some among us are theorizing that pandemics are going continue being a part of our lives for the foreseeable future. Experts in the field of Public Health assert that this is the case. Spring colds and flu used to be the only illnesses widely reported, but a number of cases of measles spreading quickly  could cause the numbers of the children who remain unvaccinated to remain unprotected.

The complacency around the subject of vaccination must end. Educators and parents would be wise to take action and speak out in their communities before those diseases that were once eradicated come back and wreak havoc.

The proliferation of those light blue masks being worn again in public places is a good thing. There is no real reason for the hostility and anger that is provoked by simply the sight of someone wearing a mask. It would be better not to give the mask-wearer a hard time, whether they wear it for their own safety or for ours. When the possibility of either spreading a virus or getting sick from one because of a weakened immune system is not the important issue.

Let us all stop questioning someone else’s personal decision when they are trying to protect themselves or others. The intention is a positive one either way.
