The Meeker’s July 4th celebration is almost upon us, so it might appear to be a tad bit late to step up and volunteer to help at one or two community events that are part of this fast approaching holiday. It is never too late. Helpers are always needed, even if it is only the clean-up crew. During the years your family doesn’t visit or need you to attend all of the activities, try volunteering for a short period. Pitching in to help at the last minute used to be a regular common occurrence. They were able to spread the word and draft all sorts of people, who didn’t realize they had the time to help..
Make a Difference Day has spread all over our state and has become a popular vehicle now to get a community to truly work together. Community efforts to draft those who are known by others for doing all kinds of volunteering year-round are usually successful, yet some years cut it closer to the edge than others. Some of us may have been unable to summon up the time to sign up for various reasons, while others may have sudden emergencies.
One day volunteering may work well for many. The familiar guilt for not volunteering for more than a day may creep in right before a community gathering is set to be a go. Yet, throughout the summer, community celebrations are the highlight of the community. The other three seasons have so scheduled many appointments and meetings that the volunteer pool gets low. These may include both small and large gatherings those from work, church and family, as well as the annual Range Call and Sheepdog Trials. The Eastern Rio Blanco Recreation District and the Chamber of Commerce sponsored would surely welcome help. If only a few folks step up, it makes a difference.
