A recent solution to ensuring the continuation of the weekly Rio Blanco Herald Times was announced last week by Niki Turner and Caitlin Walker. What a relief. A collaborative effort between the newspaper and the Rio Blanco County Historical Society has been successful in devising a plan to ensure residents will continue to receive a print edition every Thursday. The details of this newest development will be made available to anyone who wants to find out more. The importance of this second example of all of the residents working together to keep the local newspaper alive cannot be stressed enough. It was not too long ago that the initial opportunity for readers to get involved when immediate help and support was needed. The editors appealed to local residents to help when it became apparent that the weekly newspaper could not survive. Ways to find sustainability with a different business model was essential. It appears to be a good solution to ensure that the residents of both Rangely and Meeker can continue to get a printed edition of this newspaper, the Rio Blanco Herald Times. The sustainability issue has become critical here so everyone had to work together to find new solutions. It is more than a start, as it is a new beginning for our very old community institution.
It is apparent that lots of details need to be hammered out, yet this new iteration appears to provide a new way to honor an old tradition. I am looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings. Happy holidays!
