MEEKER | The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council Center Stage Youth Theatrical Group proudly presents the fall Broadway musical production, “Mary Poppins, Jr.,” on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 15-16 at 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Meeker High School auditorium, 550 School St. Admission is $7; children in grades K-8 are free when accompanied by a paying 9-12th grade student or adult. Tickets will be handed out to elementary and middle school students during the week of production.
This is the ninth annual musical presented by Center Stage since the group was created in 2010 and features youth from third through eighth grade as cast and crew members. Additionally, Meeker High School Drama Club and International Thespian Society Troupe 1284 members are assisting and mentoring with technical and backstage crew positions. More than 45 youth are participating in the cast, and 39 youth and adults are supporting members of the crew along with numerous community volunteers and organizations providing assistance with production roles and support.
Members of the cast, crew and production staff participated in and presented a summer Dessert Theatre play at the Heritage Culture Center and attended a Shakespeare production in Steamboat Springs, further developing great inspiration and love for the performing arts. MACC provides performing arts outreach programs for youth with visits to Colorado Mesa University Theatre Arts Programs and the University of Colorado at Boulder Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Future trips are planned to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Youth outreach programs.
The ERBM Recreation and Park District has provided financial assistance to offset production and licensing costs. The Meeker School District Superintendent Chris Selle, MHS Principal Amy Chinn and MHS Music Director Briana Williams have generously provided resources, coaching and use of the auditorium to host the production.
“Mary Poppins, Jr.,” is produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
