MEEKER I The Cowboys are on a 10-game win streak after two big wins this last weekend on the road, they have improved to 11-3 overall and are 6-1 in the league.
They played Soroco, a non-league game, an extra game they picked up after the West Grand boys canceled their season.
“Both games this week we continued to play really well,” said head coach Klark Kindler.
Meeker was down early against Soroco, 10-3, “we missed some open looks, but when someone hit a three pointer it took the lid off of the basket and we turned it around,” Kindler said.
“We shot well from the perimeter and it opened things up against their zone and our posts could operate in there and we pulled away in the second half,” commented Kindler.
The final score was 71-46; Liam Deming and Zagar Brown each had 14 points, Ryan Sullivan scored 11 and Jace Mobley 10.
“We had very balanced scoring and their defense could not focus on just one player, they had to guard all five spots,” said Kindler.
Saturday, led by Deming with 20 points, Meeker came out big and maintained a huge lead over North Park. The final score was 70-31.
Currently the Cowboys are sitting atop their league.
“We got help this weekend as Vail Mountain beat Vail Christian, and we are alone in first place,” commented Kindler, “our only league loss was early, before Christmas, to Vail Christian.”
This weekend Meeker travels to Baggs on Thursday to play Little Snake River, Friday they will be at home against Cedaredge which could be a league decision game. If the Cowboys win they will have sealed the league, but if Cedaredge wins, that puts the Cowboys in a five way tie in the league. After their big home game Friday they will play in DeBeque on Saturday.
