Meeker cross country tackles ‘grueling’ Delta course

MEEKER | The Devil’s Thumb Hill Climb in Delta is a course with a grueling climb, and was the location of the most recent cross country race for the Meeker Cowboys.
“This is a very difficult course, but a good early season workout,” said head coach Marty Casey. “We approached this as an opportunity to have some fun, and I think everyone did.”
A smaller race with no distinction between JV or varsity, only a girls’ race and a boys’ race, it was the first opportunity for the Cowboys to run a course together in competition this year.
Next up for Meeker cross country is Hotchkiss. The Hotchkiss Invitational will be on Saturday, Sept. 8 with high school races beginning at 10 a.m..

Girls’ race:

Briar Meszaros: 5th place, 33 minutes 10.15 seconds
Alana Nielsen: 19th place, 44:23.96

Boys’ race:

Ashdon Seibert: 16th place, 31 minutes 28.9 seconds
Pake Burke: 19th place, 32:04.62
Shane Kobald: 23rd place, 33:18.17
Owen Hannemann: 24th place, 33:21.9
Damon Dade: 29th place, 36:03.78
Josh Day: 35th place, 39:28.71
Zach Harman: 39th place, 47:37.12
