MEEKER I Meeker High School cross country traveled to Kremmling for the West Grand Invitational last Saturday. The girls raced first, once again starting in two waves. Meeker’s wave one runners included Brighton Bair, finishing in 25:06 and 17th place, Savannah Mendenhall at 26:02 and 21st place, and Nora Gianinetti, 27th place, at 27:02. The second wave consisted of Aiyanna McCook, 37th at 28:37, Ainsley Selle at 30:47 and 45th place, and Sarah Kracht one place behind, 30:56. The girls took sixth place in team scoring.
The first wave in the boys’ race had Shane Kobald as Meeker’s first to the line, and 16th overall, at 21:29. Ethan Drake and Gabe Richardson were 17th and 18th places, at 21:30 and 21:51. Spud White, Buzz Clatterbaugh, and Colby Clatterbaugh ran most the race as a pack, and finished closely as well, with Spud taking 20th place at 22:04, and Buzz and Colby crossing the finish in 22:07 and 22:08 for 22nd and 23rd places, respectively. The boys placed third as a team.
“We had some good performances following a week of tough practices. We had a number of personal records on the team, and are really seeing improvements,” said head coach Marty Casey. “I saw some great racing on Saturday. It is not an easy course, with some good climbs for the first half of the race. We had some nice downhill running back in, and saw some great efforts in that last half. Savvy had a great race overall, and Sarah and Ethan had solid finishes.”
Meeker will be splitting the competitors up this week, traveling to Delta on Friday for a meet at Confluence Park, and running the rest of the team at a meet Meeker will be hosting from the practice field at Barone Middle School on Saturday. The Delta races start at 10 a.m., and the Meeker meet will begin at 11 a.m.
