MEEKER | Last Thursday, the Meeker High School girls wrestling team traveled to Florence for a tri-dual against Lamar and Florence High School.
The Cowboys opened the dual against Florence, starting with the 100-pound weight class. Kendra Steffenson secured a win for Florence by forfeit, giving them a 6-0 lead. After a double forfeit at 105 pounds, Florence earned another win by forfeit at 110 pounds, extending the lead to 12-0.
In the 120-pound match, Ava Miller of Florence defeated Lucille Munger, bringing the score to 18-0. Following another double forfeit at 125 pounds, Meeker’s Emma Ford claimed the team’s first points with a forfeit win at 130 pounds, narrowing the gap to 18-6.
After another double forfeit at 135 pounds, Gracie Varner scored a win by forfeit for Meeker at 140 pounds. She was followed by Abigail Amick (145), Hayden Garcia (155), and Ruth LeBlanc (170), who all earned forfeit victories for the Cowboys. This gave Meeker a 30-18 lead.
The 190-pound match saw a double forfeit. Aurora Stallings sealed the Cowboys’ win at 235 pounds with a forfeit victory, making the final score 36-18.
In the second dual, Meeker faced Lamar. The Cowboys struggled, forfeiting the first five matches and trailing 30-0. At 125 pounds, Emma McCoy of Lamar defeated Lucille Munger, increasing the score to 33-0. Ella Splitter added another win for Lamar over Emma Ford at 130 pounds, bringing the score to 39-0.
Following a double forfeit at 135 pounds, Addy Krug of Lamar defeated Gracie Varner at 140 pounds. Lamar secured additional wins against Amick and Garcia, pushing their lead to 51-0.
At 170 pounds, Meeker’s Ruth LeBlanc defeated Alysa Jara, cutting the score to 51-6. Lamar’s Jaxi Mierles earned a forfeit win at 190 pounds, but Aurora Stallings closed the dual with a forfeit victory for Meeker at 235 pounds. Lamar won the dual 63-12.
On Saturday, the Cowboys competed in Canon City, with six out of nine wrestlers. The team placed 15th out of 27 teams with 41 points.
Competing in the 190-pound weight class, Ruth LeBlanc earned second place. The Cowboys will host their first-ever home dual tournament on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. Fans are encouraged to attend and support the team.
